#12 Ever wonder how a new drug goes from an idea to a life-saving treatment?

If you’re a Clinical Research Professional, you need to show this to your friends, family and your entire network to highlight how cool your job is!

Most people have no idea how a medication actually makes it to the pharmacy shelf.

Therefore I decided to create an easy to follow explanatory illustrations, that show the journey of a newly discovered compound—from discovery to treatment, and finally, to everyone’s local drugstore.

1. It all starts in a lab, where researchers identify a promising compound.

2 Scientists then test it in the lab and on cells to understand its effects.

3 If the results look good, animal testing is next to check for safety.

4 Now comes Phase 1 trials on a small group of healthy volunteers to assess safety.

5 In Phase 2, the drug is tested on patients to see if it actually works.

6 Phase 3 trials involve hundreds or thousands of patients to confirm safety and effectiveness.

7 After years of testing, the data is submitted to regulatory bodies like the FDA.

8 If approved, the drug is finally ready for the market—but monitoring continues.

9 So next time you buy a new medication, remember: it’s the result of years of dedication!
